Gabi Nazareno

Gabi Nazareno

Born in 1991, Gabi Nazareno, short for Gabriela Isobelle Niña Nazareno Vaño, is a multi-disciplinary Filipino artist from Bohol. As someone who grew up living in different parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, her drawings take inspiration from her diverse life experiences and memories. Therefore, her artworks cumulatively show her perspective of the world around her as well the world within. Through her figurative imagery, Nazareno shows a frank demonstration of her views and questions on identity, memory, human Sensibility, existence, and death.

Nazareno renders her work in various mediums – such as graphite, watercolor, acrylic, and oil – while also playing with different art processes: such as drawing, painting, sculpting and even printmaking. Recently, she has mostly been creating large-scale drawings in graphite, and has been continuing the exploration of her thesis work on Erasure. She has since delved into the performative application of, the additive, and or, subtractive, techniques of Erasure.

Fascinated by the parallels of the concepts of creation and destruction, with life and death, her work embraces the entropic force of Erasure as a productive act, breaking – but not ultimately destroying – her fascination of figures.
